Most believe that marijuana the best drug on Earth. Marijuana, however, is actually Cannabis Sativa. Cannabis Sativa is originally a plant, the dry leaves of which are used in the processing of marijuana. Marijuana is also commonly known as ghanja, charas, and hash. People use leaves of the same plant in the making of our favourite Holi drink: bhang. The fact that marijuana in India is banned is not undisclosed to the world. However, the consumption still continues.

WEED WAS ONCE LEGAL IN INDIA
Until 1985, the consumption of weed was legal in India. As a matter fact, many retail stores openly sold weed to the public. What a merry country it once was!
THE BRITISHERS TRIED BANNING IT INDIA
Indians were huge consumers of weed. The Britishers noticed the impact of this mind-alternating drug. They studied this issue in-depth. They even appointed a commission and asked them to look into the cultivation and trading of these drugs. However, back in the 1890s, the British couldn’t put a ban on this drug due to its affiliation with the Indian religions.
UNDER THE US PRESSURE, INDIA BANNED WEED
Under the pressure put by the US, Rajiv Gandhi had to put a ban on weed in India in 1985. He brought Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS: a law against such drugs) into force. What startles us Indians the most is the fact that consumption of weed is now legal in several states of the US, but still remains illegal in India.

India has legalized the consumption of marijuana as long as it is in an edible form. All of these places will basically have edibles made out of bhang. Jaisalmer, Sector 15 Noida, Mathura, Pushkar, Varanasi and Mathura are some of the locations which sell legal marijuana in edible forms.

To die of consumption of marijuana, one must consume 680 kgs of weed within 15 minutes. Marijuana is also 144 times less dangeroua than alcohol and cigarette. In fact, beer and marijuana have hops from the same plant. Moreover, recent studies have found that cigarette has a 90% addiction rate. Marijuana stands comparatively less addictive.
