Sahir Ludhianvi – A legend who lives through his art
Sahir Ludhianvi is regarded as a maestro for his work. Because it left an ever lasting impression and it continues even today. His lyrics have immortalized so many characters and rightfully earned him the tag of the greatest poet of India.
Birth
Sahir Ludhianvi was born on 8th March 1921. His birth name was Abdul Hayee. He was born to a family of zamindars but he went on to write poetry and couplets.
Work
Sahir came to Bombay and started writing songs for bollywood movies. But little did he know what was in store for him. His first break was for the movie “Naujawan” which released in 1951.
Some of his other work was for movies like “Baazi” (1951), “Pyaasa” (1957). But his lyrics for the movie “Kabhi Kabhi” (1976) is the cherry on top!
“Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon, pal do pal meri kahani hai,
pal do pal meri hasti hai, pal do pal meri jawani hai..”
Although all his work received a lot of love and appreciation, there are some songs which stood out as these songs have withstood the winds of time.
Here is a compilation of some of his best musical work –
Abhi na jao chodh kar ke dil abhi bhara nahi
Kabhi Kabhi mere dil me khayal aata hai
Aage bhi jaane na tu
Ye dil tum bin lagta nahi
Na muh chupa ke jiyo
Teri hai zameen tera aasman
Ye zulf agar khul ke bikhar jaye to achcha
Bhoole se mohabbat kar baitha
And some of his verses/couplets which are worth mentioning –
Sahir died in 1980. But even after his death, his songs continue to transcend us to a world unknown. His words will continue to live forever.
