India’s Debacles: In this universe, everything is labelled through the convenience of the man in order to create sense of his reality and perspective. Likewise, a decade is a span of time meant to be measured in a fleeting moment. So let’s take a walk and see India’s debacles retrospectively.

2010: The decade was started when leaked tape recordings of CBI of influential lobbyist Nira Radia and other influential people led to the disclosure of 2G Spectrum Scam in India. In Times Magazine, it was considered one of the 10 worst abuses of power in the world.
2012: The December 16 Delhi Gang-Rape case of Nirbhaya brought shocking realization about India’s women safety issues. Harsher laws were shaped but little has changed. Recent rape case of the eminent actress in Hyderabad is a slap in the face for us.
2013:The Chopper scam: The scam worth billions brought out the corrupted money traded through the middlemen to buy helicopters for the politicians for their personal use. The case involved serious accusation on the then present UPA government.
The Fodder Scam: Despite it was revealed in 1996, the theft grew only in size. It involved the heist of 9.4 crore from the Government Treasury of Bihar. Serious culprits were Lalu Prasad Yadav along with later convicted former Jharkhand Chief Secretary – Mr Chakraborty. It led to the end of the reign of Lalu Prasad in Bihar.
2015– Mohammed Akhlaq was lynched in his village in Dadri, UP, by locals on the crime of slaughtering a cow and eating its meat. This is the first lynching case registered in India and has led to numerous other cases afterwards.
2016– Rohith Vemula, a PhD student at the University of Hyderabad, killed himself leading to nationwide debate over the implicit discrimination of Dalits across the country.
Demonetisation- It was a reckless policy decision by the BJP in order to curb the circulation of the black money in the economy. Afterwards, the economy went to slowdown and we are facing the consequences of it presently.
2018: Jeweller Nirav Modi, defrauded the Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs-11000 crore and he is absconding in London.
2019– The second term of BJP government: There have been anxieties for the second term winning by the Modi-Shah government for its Hindutva ideology .
We can observe its repercussions with the way the abrogation of Article 370 took place in Kashmir.
The 5 month shut down of Internet is quite dark.
The passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha is quite another deal which is said to threaten the secular fabric of this country. The mistreatment of Jamia Millia Students on 14 December sparked nationwide protests in favour of the solidarity of JMI students.
