Food that uplifts mood.

“Mom, I don’t like this dish. Please give me some more of the Biriyani that you cooked yesterday”. This sentence is most often heard in Indian households. Though the word Biriyani is often substituted with Rajma Chawal or fries or Ice cream or Chocolates, the demand remains the same.

Food is something that uplifts our mood. Be it getting reprimanded in school or a stressful day at office, food that is favorable of someone’s choice never fails to make his/her mood better. The tastier the food, the faster it uplifts our mood.

Though research suggests that foods which are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids can lead to depression and mood swings and this research has led the foundation of finding mood boosting healthy foods that are critically in need by the current generation workforce.

To kick start our feel good hormones and to start the day on a joyous note, here are some of the mood elevating foods:

  • Brazil Nuts
  • Oily Fish
  • Bananas
  • Oats
  • Lentils

But everything cannot be dealt with science, right?

When we all see the ice cream parlor on a hot sunny day or the Biriyani joint where customers are being served smoking hot biriyani plates with succulent pieces of potato and meat, that they tend to salivate. Being a foodie, I can vouch for the fact that bypassing these places without having a thought of stopping by and grabbing a bite of our favorite food, is the hardest thing we all face in our life.

India is a land of diverse cultures and when these cultural foundations were laid, it marked the advent of some of the dishes particular to the cultures. Few of the places and their specialty dishes are as follows:

  • Rasgulla and other sweets of Kolkata
  • Litti Chokha of Patna
  • Petha of Agra
  • Vada Pav of Mumbai
  • Idli dosa of Chennai
  • Kerala Paratha and Meen Fry of Kochi
