Female Mythological Characters Who Were Feminists

“Women or female empowerment just came to trend.”

Some people would agree with this statement but some won’t. Feminism and female domination was not so common ages or centuries ago, but it existed. Some characters from very famous mythological anecdotes have shown furious feminism. We shall start with some world-renown legends.

Savitri

We all may sometimes think of her pièce de résistance as love. She was a woman who persevered every obstacle to let her husband live. A generous person like her is remembered as the perfect wife. When no one could fight death, she brought her husband back from death’s door. She was given the choice of an almost incomprehensible number of husbands but chose the one whose death was written in just a year. She knew she could change Satyavan’s fate. Sri Aurobindo Savitri has created periods of the history of feminity.

Satyavati

Satyavati was the inception of the Kuru dynasty in Mahabharta. She played the role of Queen Mother efficiently. She was also in love with the King and got what she wanted. Satyavati was ideal for all and sundry. Satyavati held the throne and the crown safe until the perfect King was born. She was a righteous person but had to face a good amount of struggle to survive her dream life. Satyavati didn’t lose hope after several deaths of her loved ones. She was a proud woman in every of her decision. Satyavati was absolutely a feminist.

Durga- Female destructor of evils

She is the goddess of Nari Shakti. Durga Mata exemplifies that every woman is as fierce as her. Every woman could destroy demons and have a voice. We all must’ve heard of Durga Puja, one of the most celebrated festivals. Women proudly wear beautiful sarees and get on the streets and celebrate it. Durga Mata slaughtered the evils of the world. Society in India has made this a boon that women are meant to sit at home and maintain the household. But they forgot that Durga Mata didn’t do chores. She was more derived towards why there is male domination in every aggressive or brave aspect of life. She fought against all odds and proved what feminism looks like.

Amba

Amba was known as an avatar of Durga. She was the eldest of sisters married to the princes of Hastinapur but she couldn’t be with her ideal husband. Her dream was broken by fate and she wanted to strive. She proved herself innocent to Lord Parshuram and He fought enormously for her, it could’ve destroyed the world but she was ready to conquer anything for her love. God Shiva appeared himself to give her justice against Bhishma. She was awarded a birth only for the death of her oppressor. She committed to feminism, fighting for her right.

Shikhandini- Female inspiration

Shikhandini was the second birth of Amba, she was going to grant her justice. She was the only female commander at that time. She was known as the immoral commander. Shikhandini’s purpose in life was to kill Bhishma. But women were not allowed on the battlefield in Mahabharta. So she had to transform her gender to pick up the sword and behead her tyrant.

Shikhandini and Amba’s vengeance was satisfied when Bhishma desired death.

Manikarnika– Rani Laxmibai

Well, who doesn’t know about “khoob ladi mardani woh toh jhansi wali rani thi“. She also held the throne after her husband died. Stood in the war till the last drop of her blood seeped. She may be called the human avatar of Durga. Rani Laxmibai battled with an army of women against the Britishers. She did not take any kind of bias judgment against women. Since her childhood, she was extremely fond of swords and wars. She witnessed how dangerous a woman could be in the surroundings of a man.

I shall not surrender my Jhansi” she quoted. Laxmibai also raises a very patriotic depiction towards her Jhansi. She was insolent towards warnings of Britishers because she never presumed her Jhansi to be under their rule.

Sati- Dakshayani

Sati was a vikarma (carrier of bad fate). She fell in love with Shiva (the Neelkanth) but was discriminated against based on her fate or past life. They said that she was a vikarma because she gave birth to a stillborn and she is not allowed to be touched by anyone or they’d become impure. And her fate will be divided with the people if she gets in contact with them.

Other than this, she was a great warrior. She was wondrous in sword skill. Her father humiliated Shiva. Sati inundated with anger because of the lowered respect for her husband led her to enter the fire. Shiva was destroyed when he heard Sati’s death. Sati rebirthed as Parvati, who married Shiva again.

Sati/ Parvati exemplifies a perfect feminist because she strived for her husband and his love.

Draupadi- Panchali, Drupadkanya

Panchali was the vision of actual feminists. She is the inspiration for every woman to protest against injustice. Draupadi is known by various names, one of them was Yagyaseni. She was born in fire and she made it pure wherever she stepped. Her life was written full of sacrifices and struggles but a righteous path. Her father once abandoned her but she had the protection of Lord Krishna.

From marrying 5 Pandavas to justice war, Mahabharta. She faced everything a woman could face in this journey. She was unclothed by her brothers-in-law while she was the Queen of the whole world. Even her husbands and finest of warriors couldn’t defend this iniquity. She kept calm for more than 13 years and slewed every immoral person on earth.

Draupadi was really the female who changed the world.

At last, every Devi, Goddess, or any female can do anything she possesses. Don’t underestimate a female as soft or fragile. Feminism is not about females, it’s about equality which women have been striving for. Voice up, sit up straight, and speak your heart females! No one can stop you because all these women listed resides in you.
