Please Maintain Social Distancing; Let’s Stay Safe!
You know the social distancing drill. Stay 6 feet away from others while in public.
But what do you do when that clueless grocery store shopper gets too close for comfort at the checkout line? Or when you’re out for a stroll around the block, your neighbors get a bit too neighborly?

How do you tell someone to back the (bleep) off without actually telling to (bleep, Bleep)…and Maintain Social Distancing
Simply we all are getting creative at this. Here are some cheeky and courteous ways to make sure your fellow human allows you the room that is so much needed.
1. Talk out loudly or is it too loudly?
Do you know those annoying people who shout into their smartphones like they’re in the middle of a Tsunami? Be that annoying person. The person who shouts into their smartphone like you’re in the middle of a Tsunami. Real or fake, a loud conversation with an unseen party does call for clearing the path. Besides, you can blame the shouting on wearing a mask.
2. Bow and Crusty
Jefferson Bodega owner Luke Horgan in San Antonio posted on social media the “gender agnostic bow and curtsy” of a friend as a means of welcoming others while retaining social distancing. We bet the gesture has others back in kind as well, because who curtsies now?
3. Sing “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” by the Police.
An appropriate classic by a band named after law enforcement. How can you go wrong? 😀
4. Let’s Be Safe; Please Maintain Social Distancing
Consider the statement, “Let’s be safe! Please maintain social distancing.” The positive politeness here, “Let’s be safe,” emphasizes a mutual goal rather than just your own individual desire. So, rather than requesting the other person to do something that you want, you are asserting a mutual goal—let’s both be safe.
5. Speak softly, Carry Big Sticks
Haha! Sounds like we are gonna wack someone today. Carrying a stick can make a difference. Honestly, walking with a stick can do wonders for establishing and enforcing a perimeter around you. Or do like Ryan Dempsey in San Francisco did. He attached pool noodles to a backpack that spans around him so that he looks like Doctor Octopus walking his dog. Dempsey even made a backpack of pool noodles for his dog, Oona too.
6. Frequently mention your new anti-itch cream or lice treatment.
Pretty self-explanatory. 😀
