Apu and Aparna’s wedding wasn’t particularly a happy occasion. It happened not by love or even by matchmaking but by accident. Yes, you read that right. The film highlighted two emotions in a very realistic and natural way: loss and love.
It is interesting that in each film in the Apu Trilogy is marked by the death of a woman in his life. However, this is the only movie in the Apu Trilogy in which apu seems to have a happy ending.

7)Forrest Gump (1994)

He tries to connect with his father in his own way. He believes 786 is the number of Allah and he dials that number by converting it to a 10 digit number. The movie depicts the hard reality of Kashmir where both civilians and army officials are being used according to political motives.
Hamid is an adaption of the play Phone No. 786 by Amin Bhat directed by Dr. Aijaz Khan and written by Ravindra Randhawa and Sumit Saxena.

10) Devdas (2002)
Devdas is a Bengali novel by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. Indian Cinema has adapted and depicted Devdas on several occasions. Thou Devdas released in 2002 is regarded as the best version to date. Devdas returns to India to marry his childhood love, Paro. Devdas faces severe drinking problems due to the rejection of marriage from his family end. All this leads him into emotional disintegration and him looking for shelter with Chandramukhi.

12) Devi (1960)
Devi a Bengali film directed by Satyajit Ray. Devi is an adaptation of Provatkumar Mukhopadhyay’s short stories. The movie is a strong take on religious dogmatism. A young lady deemed as a goddess by her dad-in-law, a rich primitive land-ruler. He has a dream imagining her as a symbol of Kali.
Devi stars Sharmila Tagore as Dayamoyee who starts accepting herself as a goddess due to some co-incidences and the belief of her dad-in-law.
13) Sadgati (1981)
Sadgati is an adaption of Munshi Premchand’s short story of the same name. Directed by Satyajit Ray, Sadgati focuses on the plight condition of Dalits/Untouchables in Indian society. The plot of the film spins around a helpless untouchable tanner Dukhi and his battles to get his girl wedded. In the wake of position misuse and segregation by the Brahmin cleric.

Set Against the backdrop of Mumbai underworld Maqbool tells a story of a gang rivalry fought with revenge and betrayal. At the core of the film lies the relationship between Abbaji, Maqbool, and Nimmi.

15) Omkara (2006)
Omkara is a 2006 film adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello play which is written and directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. Omkara is the second installment of Bharadwaj’s Shakespearean trilogy. Langada dreams of becoming Omkara’s successor after the latter wins election but a sudden twist occurs when Kesu is appointed as Omkara lieutenant. Langada feels betrayed and plots revenge.
