Why women need a house of their own? Our society cannot really digest a single woman taking loans and owning a house when they have an easy option of getting married. Each and every one of us yearns for freedom above anything else. Since, it is regarded as the most precious element our lives. Also, in a society like ours, very often women are deprived of this beautiful aspect of freedom where they may choose to live their lives on their own conditions, far from the judgemental eyes of neighbors that stalk them almost everywhere; where they can be their true imperfect selves.
Journey from Maika to Sasural
The perceived journey of an Indian women doesn’t have to be necessarily from her parents’ home to her husband’s house. A woman needs her own home so that she can live her life on her own terms. Where she doesn’t have to keep away from the Mandir, in order to not violate its “purity”. As if, everything in the world wasn’t created by The High One and he doesn’t have anything more important to do than to keep a check on his children.

When the brothers with hairy legs that can even put a bear into shame, can hover around the house freely in shorts, girls are often told to hide their beautiful creamy legs. A woman needs a house of her own so that she can move around wearing hot pants and slaying to her favorite songs.

Well, parents cannot really wrap their heads around the decision of their daughters wishing to have their own house, burdened with the thoughts of EMIs, homeloans and the worst of all depreciating values of property. Every independent woman wants a house of her own so that she can proudly put the name plate of just her own name on the main door.
No More Spying Eyes
“Their girl was roaming with that boy.”; “That girl was talking to that boy”; “Boys come so often to her place.”- Aren’t women tired of listening to such tantrums from random uncles and aunts. The spying eyes of neighbours stalk them almost everywhere. The neighbouring aunts with their eyes glued to our windows keep peeping into our personal spaces. They watch out for any penis bearers stepping into our homes. A women needs a house of her own so that they don’t have to worry about, “What will they say?”
Women too need our true freedom. The freedom to take their decisions, to do what’s right and not follow other’s opinion. Is that too much to ask for? Women need a house of their own so that their landlords bang open the doors of their rented homes and sniff around to find alcohols bottles hidden under the bed, traces of men’s presence in the house and the list goes on!
No More Bachelors Allowed
Even in the most cosmopolitan cities, societies randomly decides on the rule that Bachelors can no more live in the societies. Women need to own a house so that none can throw them out of their homes just like that!
Most importantly, a women needs a house of their own because they want to be strong, independent and fulfilled.
