Iconic Pop songs that we grew up with – Feeling old yet?
Do you ever wonder, if songs and poetry never existed, how would our lives be? Miserable, to say the least. And whenever we talk about songs, we inevitably go back to the days when we were growing up. And when I say “We”, I mean people born in mid 90s. Let me take you back to the iconic pop songs that we grew up with!
What exactly is the pop genre?
The pop genre is widely defined as contemporary and common type of music. It usually has dance worthy beats & rhythm set in a repetitive structure. And it is not a stand alone genre as it has taken inspiration from many other genres. It has hints of rock, hip-hop and sometimes even jazz.
Due to its mass appeal, pop music is commercially more viable. In fact, it is termed as a money making genre as well. An underrated extension of pop music lies in the indie pop. India had witnessed the rise of many indie pop bands during the 90s. Some of their songs still find a place in our playlist. Because that’s the reach and extent of pop music!
1. Ab na jaa & Maeri by Euphoria
If there was one song that I would want to listen to under a starry night, this would be it. Ab na jaa is arguably one of their best songs. I am ready to lose this argument to another iconic song, Maeri. The way Palash Sen sang these iconic songs, left an everlasting imprint on our hearts. And, feel free to add more of Euphoria’s songs!
2. Everything I do & Summer of 69′ by Bryan Adams
Raise your hand if Bryan Adams helped you sail the boat of your broken heart. Remember when he would sing, “There’s no love, like your love and no other could give more love” and the waterworks would start? Because same.
3. All of Enrique Iglesias songs
The heartthrob of our generation and the man behind my playlist when I was 13. It is no denying that his songs formed a major chunk of our early life. From Hero to Somebody’s me and the most iconic, Addicted was at the top of my playlist. Honestly, my nokia was full of Enrique’s hits only.
4. Yellow, Fix you & The Scientist by Coldplay
Chris Martin has been generous to us all his life. And it is only fair to credit his iconic hits like Yellow, Fix you and The Scientist.
And deep down you know that these songs still tug at your heartstrings.
5. Lucky Ali and his underrated songs
“Shaam savere teri yaadein aati hai, aa ke dil ko mere yun tadpaati hain, oh sanam, mohabbat ki kasam”
Lucky Ali is like gold. You invest in him once & you will gain profitable returns all your life! And I am glad I did. But O Sanam is no the only gem. Do watch his movie Sur and you will be left wanting for more. He is iconic and underrated at the same time. But if there’s one Lucky Ali song that I can hear for the rest of my life, that has to be Na tum jaano na hum from the movie Kaho na pyaar hai.
6. Songs from the movie Jhankaar Beats & Delhii Heights
Do you remember watching these movies? I don’t. But for some astonishing reason, I remember their songs. Listen to Tu aashiqui hai & Kitni der tak and I bet you won’t stop humming them!
7. Dooba Dooba by Silk Route
You would have probably forgotten this gem by now. So, let me wake you up from the slumber! Back in the days, I didn’t know who sang this song or which band was it from. But I would keep going back to it, like an ex with whom you didn’t find a closure. And with this song, I don’t want to find either.
8. Songs by Sonu Nigam
Before being savage, Sonu Nigam used to sing as well. He sings even now but back in those days, his songs would pierce your mind & soul. Who can forget Ye Dil from the movie Pardes, Iss kadar pyaar hai, Saathiya and Kyon Hawa. We grew up listening to Sonu Nigam and he will always have a special corner in our lives!
9. Akon, Lady Gaga & Rihanna
You name it and they would have sung an iconic song that you can never forget. Akon’s Blame it on me was the international heartbreak anthem. Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance was the IT song in your playlist. And Rihanna gave us an iconic hit in the form of Unfaithful.
These songs hold a special place in our lives. It is just a matter of cleaning the dust off of them. And there you go, listening and getting lost in them.
