Times When Villains Made Us Believe They Were Right
The Villains are the characters that make any story more interesting than the good guys. Yet all their Character gets most of the time is hatred from its fans. Well, most of the time we see these antagonists or more commonly known as “villains” get praised for their acting skills. They also are praised for how evil they are, but rarely are they credited when they do make a good point. So here are Seven Villains who made a pretty good point to justify themselves:
Thanos
Thanos is a villain that can be seen in most of the MCU movies. He is the guy we all waited for 10 years to see after the credits rollover. Although he makes his main appearance in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. He is referred to as the biggest villain of MCU ever. He plotted for over 10 years to find infinity stones so he could use them to kill half of the world’s population. Sound pretty bad, Right! But he saw his whole planet getting degraded because of overpopulation. Also in the real world overpopulation and limited resources and our misuse of those limited resources is a real threat. I know his way is not the ideal solution. But the cause for which he is fighting is pretty real and he surely makes us believe he is right to take a stand for it. Joker
Arguably one of the best villains of all time, and here I will be talking about Joker from The Dark Night. As that is the movie in which he plays the role of a villain against Batman. Well, in the movie we see that Joker bombs building and kills innocent people and that is pretty terrible. What we also see is that he single handily with his plan burns and bankrupts the money of the Mafia of Gotham. Thus saving Gotham from Mafia and corruption that was nearly an impossible task to do.
Later his philosophy about men tearing each other apart for their own good and being selfish is also radical yet true. An example of it in real life is people hoarding supplies during this time of lockdown. This is affecting the poor. He is a true radical philosophist and what more? Joker makes the batman retire. He manipulates him into breaking his rule of killing people. Batman kills Harvey Dent and thus Gotham is also free of its lawbreaking vigilante serving his version of Justice. Overall he is right about a lot of things here.
Cersei Lannister
I know I may get a lot of hate for this one from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire fans. But hear me out she did what she had too to keep herself and her family save. No one in Game of Thrones is a good guy; everyone has done some dark shit. Cersei is selfish, cruel and even ruthless but she does everything to save her family. She is even successful to keep her family on the throne for all the eight seasons.
Well, we might need to thank Tywin for that but still; people hate her for being mean. In contrast, she understands the world and has had most of her life been controlled by powerful men. But she doesn’t surrender to them instead she does what she feels is good for her. And she only hurts those who are trying to harm her or are a subsequent threat to her well being. Cersei makes a good point on why should women succumb to powerful men and not do what they feel is right or enjoyable for themselves. She challenges the norms of patriarchy and comes forward as a powerful character.
Loki
Yup the god of mischief is probably one of the most lovable villains of all time. Here I will only be talking about him being the antagonist in Thor (2011). We can see that all he ever tries is to prove to Odin that he is a better son then Thor. Also, Thor is an arrogant prick at the beginning of the movie. And Loki discovers his real father and he comes to know that Odin has adopted him. Loki thinks that this is the reason for Thor getting to be the King of Asgard. And him always getting treated inferior compared to Thor.
Well, we may argue that he may be evil and even plans to kill an entire race of the Frost Giants. Although You have to agree that he was right in the starting of the movie that Thor was unfit to rule over Asgard. As we do see in the movie he only gets better after he had visited earth, for which he should be thankful to Loki too. One might also argue that Odin was a shitty father, if he had done his job right Hella, Thor and Loki would have made a hell of a team!
Ramadhir Singh
This list would have been incomplete without a Bollywood villain in it. And who is better then Ramadhir Singh, he is considered to be one of the greatest villains in Bollywood ever. And being a huge Gangs of Wasseypur fan myself I hate him too. But when we look at it all he tries to do throughout the film is to keep himself and his family safe. He kills Shahid Khan (Father of Sardar Khan) because Shahid Khan plans to kill him and take his power. And his response to that is to kill Shahid Khan to protect himself. Also, you have to agree with him on the point that “Jab Tak is desh mein cinema hai log chutiya bante rahenge”
As this is what Anurag Kashyap does to us in the film too. Anurag makes a normal self-protecting politician an antagonist here. And Anurag also makes us fall in love with the character of a crazy minded individual i.e Sardar Khan. Who wants revenge from Ramadhir for killing his father. You also got to agree that he is one of the smartest ones amongst them. As he manages to survive for a long time and even manages to kill Sardar Khan too.
Gaston
Well, this list would surely be incomplete without a Villain from Disney. Here I will be talking about Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Gaston loves Bella in the movie and even goes with her father to save her from a Beast. Also, this story is all about Stockholm syndrome where the victim (Belle) falls in love with her Captor (The Beast). I would agree that Gaston should not have left Belle’s father in the forest, and he is an idiot to do so. But as a normal person would do he plans to kill the beast because he is a beast after all. You have to agree with him logically here as he wants to save his town from a Beast and which logical men can trust a Beast on a girl’s words.
Helmut Zemo
He is one of the best villains in Marvel Cinematic Universe ever. We see him in Captain America: Civil War and he has done his job pretty good. He is a guy without any superpower who just simply loved his family and lost them during the Age of Ultron as they all lived in Slovakia. He sees that the Avengers all of whom caused this trouble are still doing what they do unaffected. So he wants vengeance and he successfully gets it.
I agree that he is locked in the Cage in the end but he considers himself successful as he can cause a rift between Captain and Tony. He is also completely justified for his vengeance against our beloved Avengers because they didn’t care even about blowing up a whole city. And more importantly, he is successful in his plans; very few villains get to say so. One can also argue that he was the reason the Avengers lost in Infinity war.
Orm Marius
Orm Marius was the half-brother of Aquaman and the King of Atlantis. His mother was banished from Atlantis by his father and he blamed his brother Arthur or Aquaman for that, this was the root cause that developed his hatred for the surface people. His way of revenge and the idea of waging a war against the surface was surely wrong, but the cause for his hatred that the surface people have polluted the seas, killed the sea life, and dumped garbage in oceans for years is true and right. Also, he defeated Arthur aka Aquaman in a fair fight in the Ring of Fire before Arthur held the golden trident too.
I hope you enjoyed reading about them in case you would like to read about heroines you can read about them here. I know there might be many other villains who had a good point to justify themselves. Comment down their names below and share this article among your friends if you agree with me.
