Born in London and raised in Rhode Island, Jhumpa Lahiri got the Pulitzer Prize, the PEN/Hemingway Award, and The New Yorker Debut of the Year for her debut collection, Interpreter of Maladies. Her novel The Namesake was a New York Times Notable Book, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist. In addition to that, it was selected as one of the best books of the year by USA Today and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications. Lahiri also got a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002. Moreover, she inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2012.
Some of her novels are The Namesake, The Lowland, and Dove mi Trovo (an Italian novel). Interpreter of Maladies (1998) and Unaccustomed Earth (2008) are short fiction collections. Likewise, Jhumpa Lahiri also compiled, edited, and translated the Penguin Book of Italian Short Stories which consists of 40 Italian short stories written by 40 different Italian writers. Further, she also translated some of her own writings and those of other authors from Italian into English. In 2014, Lahiri was awarded the National Humanities Medal. Meanwhile, she is a professor of creative writing at Princeton University.
