Ten Harry Potter Facts, that will make you revisit the Wizarding world.
Harry Potter might have had a different name!
According to an interview given by J.K. Rowling in 2000, Rowling was asked why she chose the name Harry potter. Her answer to the question was “Harry’ has always been my favourite boy’s name. If my daughter had been a boy, he would have been Harry Rowling. Then I would have had to choose a different name for “Harry” in the books. As it would have been too cruel to name him after my son. “Potter” was the surname of a family whom I knew and I always liked the name, so I borrowed it.”
We all have been pronouncing the Dark Lord name’s wrong!
Dark lord or commonly known as Lord Voldemort by most of us has a pretty great name. The name is derived from French in which it loosely translates to Flight of death, pretty cool yeah? But Rowling says, we all have been pronouncing his name wrong for years the “T” in his name is silent. We all did screw his name.
Dumbledore and Grindelwald were in love!
Two of the most powerful wizards of all time had a love affair. These two were attracted to each other as mentioned in the “Deathly Hallows” and by Rowling too. Also, it is painful to know that Dumbledore had to duel with the love of his life. “ I am less interested in the sexual side of their relationship but they did love each other passionately,” says J.K. Rowling.
Daniel Radcliffe was bullied at school for playing Harry Potter!
Yup, that’s true being the protagonist of the series didn’t help him too much at school. Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter in the series was bullied at school. About this Radcliffe says “I wasn’t the most popular kid because they wanted to give me a lot of crap and I wasn’t willing to take it”. He also reported that he was punched by a 19-year-old when he was 14 and was trying to help a friend.
Trolley Witch is the oldest witch alive!
Do you guys remember the sweet trolley witch who sold chocolate frogs and other cool stuff in Hogwarts express? Guess what, she is the oldest witch alive at 190 years old. She was hired in the 1830s and was present in the wizarding world till 2020. As we see her in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, in which she was brave enough to try to stop Albus and Scorpius from getting off the train. Next in this list would be Professor McGonagall at 127 years old.
Dementors reflect depression!
The deadly dark monsters in the book are a representation of depression. According to J.k. Rowling, “It’s so difficult to describe [depression] to someone who’s never been there because it’s not sadness,”. “I know sadness. Sadness is to cry and to feel. But it’s that cold absence of feeling—that hollowed-out feeling. That’s what Dementors are.”
That is why dark chocolate is offered to harry by Professor Lupin, as it helps in getting better same is true for depression too. As “Dark chocolate helps to release serotonin and relaxes the blood vessels of the cardiovascular system.”
This Harry Potter actor was stabbed to death!
Robert Knox the actor who played Marcus Belby in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was stabbed to death on 24 May 2008; it was even before the Half-Blood Prince was released. He got engaged in a fight trying to protect his 17-year-old brother.

Newt Scamander is in Harry Potter!
In the first book, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” when Harry gets his shopping list for Hogwarts, among the books required by the first-year students is the book “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” by Newt Scamander. Here you can see his name mentioned in the Harry Potter book. Also, we can see his name on the Marauder’s Map in the movie “Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban”.
Another interesting fact is that Luna Lovegood marries the Grandson of Newt Scamander i.e Rolf Scamander Also, Nagini who is a Horcrux and a dear pet of Voldemort appears in “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald.”
Ron is the only one whose real name is in the book!
In the sixth book “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Professor Slughorn cannot remember Ron’s name correctly and he often ends up calling him with different names. In Chapter 22 of that book, he calls him Rupert which is the real name of the actor who plays Ronald Weasley, also the Sixth book came out when the movie “Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire” was going to release, so I don’t think it is a coincidence. Also talking about Rupert Grint he is going to become a father soon!
The Harry Potter Franchise is bigger than you think!
The Harry Potter universe is one of the biggest ones ever to exist, it has at least 164 characters, 1,084,170 words, the budget of the movies is 25 Crores USD, around 200 actors have stared in the films and 2016 its value was supposed to be 25 billion dollars. And it’s funny to think that it all just started with Rowling having a random thought in a train.
