Bois Locker room: Indian teens mindset
What is Bois Locker room?
On 3rd May, Instagram and twitter took by a storm to point out a group called the Bois Locker room. This was an active group on Instagram formed by 16-17 old school going teenagers who used this group to spread rape culture. Most of the members are teenagers living in South Delhi.
The netizens went into rage complaining about the behaviour of these boys and their audacity. Also spreading the information about this kind of rape culture groups being prevalent in India.
What were they talking about in Bois Locker Room?
In this group, the boys were sharing pictures and nudes of underage girls and were slut-shaming them. They were objectifying women and their body too. What more! These guys are even threatening and planning to rape girls.
Many of the girls who are being talked about in these groups are even underage mostly being 14-17 years old. They had no idea that their images were used in these groups. The guys in these groups have used extremely foul and degrading language for these girls.
This all got exposed the girls who were brave enough to take a stand on it are getting rape threats. Moreover, some people are defending these rascals on the internet, and that even includes some girls. All of this raises a question about the mindset of teenagers as well as the inappropriate use of social media for such activities.
How does it affect society?
One important thing to consider is many of the girls are now even terrified to post their pictures on social media as they are afraid that those might be misused for such purposes. Parents are advising their daughters to stay off these social media platforms. But we do need to ask: Is this the solution to all of this?

Shouldn’t it be the parents of those boys who should talk to them and knock some sense into their brains?
Also, another disturbing element is that many of these teens are not at all shameful for their actions instead they are abusing as well as threatening the girls who stood up against all of this. They have created other groups now and are talking about threatening and raping the girls who are standing against them. Some people are supporting these guys and even some teenage girls who are taking a stand for them.
There is a whole debate on the internet regarding it and some people are even saying that Women fantasize to get raped? Okay, so let’s take a scenario: you are walking on the road and a person comes near you forcefully removes your clothes and whips you and inserts a screwdriver in you and his response to all this is that some people fantasize this! It sounds absurd. That is exactly what these people are trying to say.
The legal action is taken so far!
Fortunately, a cyber cell investigator under the name @shumbhamcybercop started to investigate all this and was able to gather information about the admins of the group. According to him, some members of the group have been arrested under Section 66A of the IT Act of cyberbullying.

— Delhi Commission for Women – DCW (@DCWDelhi) May 4, 2020
DCW chief @SwatiJaiHind issues notice to Instagram and Delhi Police in the matter of a group named "boys locker room" being used by some miscreants to share objectionable pictures of minor girls and planning illegal acts such as rape of minor girls. #boyslockerroom pic.twitter.com/PyzxGCv7kt
The Delhi Women’s Commission has taken a look at this case and their chief Swati Maliwal tweeted saying this that the incident is a reflection of perverse and rapist mentality. The Delhi Police have been asked to lodge a complaint against this by May 8.
What’s the solution?
Well, the harsh reality is this happens every day and goes unnoticed and in this incident, they got caught. The only real way to improve this situation is by educating young kids, good parenting, moral education as well as sexual education. As punishing these teens will generate fear among all but how long will this fear last? Fear will fade away at a certain point in time. But, correct education and moral learning will be fruitful enough so that people stop objectifying each other and that will be of big help.
