COVID-19 Outbreak – WHO Issues Guidelines For Ramadan
COVID-19 has taken the world by storm. Almost all the countries are fighting against it. World Health Organization is spearheading the fight by regularly updating the world about COVID-19. On 15th April, WHO issued guidelines to be followed during the holy month of Ramadan.
Corona virus has infected and killed many people till date. In order to contain its spread, people have been asked to stay at home.
In fact, many countries have mandated against any form of social gatherings. Consequently, people are forced to stay inside. It has also restricted people to come together and celebrate religious occasions.
One such religious occasion is the holy month of Ramadan!
Why is Ramadan celebrated?
Ramadan is celebrated by the followers of Islam. It is celebrated in the honor of Prophet Muhammad. Because it is believed that Quran was first revealed to the Prophet in the month of Ramadan.
This year, Ramadan begins on 23rd April and will end on 23rd May.
Celebrations during Ramadan
The holy month of Ramadan is marked by religious social gatherings. It brings family members together.
The day begins by offering namaz. Then first meal of the day is eaten before dawn. This meal is called suhoor. People then fast the entire day without eating or drinking anything.
At dusk, another prayer is offered. Then the fast is broken and families relish delicious meal together! This meal is called iftaar.
Why did WHO issue guidelines for Ramadan?
On the 15th of April, the WHO came out with guidelines to celebrate Ramadan.
Ramadan is marked with multiple mass religious and social gatherings. Because people gather together in mosques to offer namaz. They also break their fasts together.
Unfortunately, these gatherings last for an entire month. And it is well known by now that the virus spreads from human contact. Mass gatherings will allow the virus to spread rapidly. It will infect thousands of people in one go. As a result of which, the number of casualties will increase manifold.
WHO’s guidelines during Ramadan
WHO has issued multiple guidelines to ensure well being of people. These guidelines will ensure a safe and secure celebration of Ramadan.
