PUNCTUATION MARKS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW
Some less known Punctuation Marks: The marks, such as full stop, comma, and brackets, are used in writing to separate sentences and their elements and to clarify meaning.
HYPHEN –
It is a horizontal line,mostly confused with a dash. Different in the usage it is used as a single adjective bEfore a noun, in number words. Aditionally, it divide words into syllables. When a compound adjective comes before the noun, they are hyphenated.
Example – A blue-colored shirt.
PARENTHSES ()
Particularly used around extra non-essential information . A sort of information that is too important to omit.
Example – He gave me a nice bonus (₹1000)
COLON :
Chiefly used to introduce a list and before a final clause. A clause that explains something in the sentence.
NOTE – When two or more sentences follow a colon, capitalize the first word following the colon if it’s a proper noun.
Example – You know what to do : practice.
SEMI-COLON ;
It joins two independent clauses. Generally not joined or connected witha coordinate conjunction. Often used to emphasize relatedness.
NOTE – A comma is used within a sentence for a smaller separations , and for bigger separations, semi colon is used.
Example –I have an exam tommorow; can’t go out tonight.
APOSTROPHE ‘
Specifically used in contractions in order to indicate possession.
Example – They don’t like sugar in the pudding.
ELLIPSIS…
Another unheard form of punctuation used to indicate excluded wording within a phrase or paragraph. Moreover, it also signifies a pause in speech .
EXAMPLE – I am clueless……may be.

VIRGULE /
It shows a separation between lines of poetry . Ocassionally, called an oblique, an oblique stroke, a diagonal, a solidus, a forward slash, and a separatix.
EXAMPLE – And up and down the people go/ Gazing where the lilies blow/ Round an island there below/ The island of shalott
