Be Kind To Your Pets This Diwali

As someone who owns two dogs, one rabbit, lots of fishes, one more dog, and two birds, I feel like kind of an expert in keeping pets safe during Diwali. There’s no doubt Diwali is fun and creating havoc is marvelous but when it implicates our pets, we have to set some guidelines.

Loud Noise, Crackers, Ashes and so might harm our pets in numerous ways! There are a few rules you should head to this Diwali with if you’re a pet owner.

Dogs and cats are especially sensitive to noise and can easily get hurt if they jump from fear.

“A dog’s hearing ability is seven times more than humans. When we cannot bear the loud sounds of the crackers, imagine what the poor dogs go through. It is high time we become a little bit more sensitive towards the plights these poor animals go through during Diwali.” — Ronita Sharma, Pet Owner.

It’s best to keep them somewhere less noisier, maybe a room with padded walls and thick curtains, and be sure to comfort them if they seem to be barking or whining too much; they’re probably just scared and wanna make sure you’re safe.

You can also buy ear muffs for them! So they look cute AND are safe. What a great deal!

In response to excessive noise, your pet might start shaking, salivating, trembling, shivering, barking excessively, losing appetite, get aggressive, etc. This indicates that Diwali may be fun for you but for your pets, it’s hell.

Please take care of them this year and try to say A BIG NO TO CRACKERS. Isn’t it enough to see that the Pollution is ruining our environment? Why do you gotta hurt our pets too now?

But while you can do this, your neighbors may not.

Take your pets to the most isolated room and soothe them. If you see any of the above signs, then stay with them to comfort them, poor little creatures. If firecrackers are already so loud for us, imagine how bad it can be for them?

All pets should also be kept away from the places where you burn the firecrackers or any of the ashes is left because cats and dogs are curious creatures and will immediately lick something if they think its dangerous. In short, they’re stupid.

So until you’ve done Post-Diwali cleaning, don’t let them get near anything like that, Okay? It’s your responsibility to protect these babies.

If people accidentally throw any burnt crackers near them, it can hurt their paws or if any of the ash gets into their eyes or lungs, it can seriously affect them. Don’t think that just because its only one evening, it can’t hurt your pet’s health.

Your sense of celebration should not become another living being’s misery.

For birds, you can’t do much except keeping them in a separate safe room, you can add some sedatives to their food if you’re afraid of them hurting themselves but be careful with the dosage and don’t make it a habit otherwise they might get addicted. And who wants a stoner bird, am I right? xD

But in case of fishes, please keep their tank securely lidded and hidden in the house. The ashes from firecrackers is extremely toxic to animals and fishes. They don’t really care about the sounds, however.

Blasting crackers is fun, I agree, but can you still do it after looking into your pet’s adorable eyes?

It’s also recommended to put your pets to sleep early during Diwali so they can be well rested and don’t have to listen to all the loud noise and be agitated. Otherwise, their hearing can be seriously damaged.

You can also take your pets to the nearest vet and get an anti-anxiety shot but like I said before, drugs and medication are fine to a limit. You can play some soothing music to help your pet relax.

But these are only some precautions you can take. Best thing would be if we didn’t burst any crackers at all but unfortunately, that’s not possible.

Lots of stray animals will also get implicated if this goes on, so please, I humbly request you to purchase firecrackers to a limited extent this Diwali.

Diwali is a festival of peace, prosperity and joy. Yet, such a beautiful festival, actually leaves so many animals traumatized during the cracker bursting spree of the citizens. What joy is there in seeing a poor little creature, shivering with fear? What prosperity? What peace?

I bet not all the firecrackers in the world can light up your day like your cute little pet does, so why let them suffer?

This year, have a bit more compassion. Happy Diwali 2k19!!
