Courtesy to the ever increasing population of India, it has led to the establishment of several universities which can be classified as Government run and private institutions.

There are several quality institutions in India which provides a wide range of specialization and degree courses. Indian youth can choose from this wide variety and go into the depths of any subject, gaining knowledge from reputed scholars and professors.

The top 20 Indian Universities are as follows:

1.Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

It is one of the reputed public institute for research and higher education in engineering, management, science and design. Located in the CV Raman road in Bangalore, it was founded by Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV.

 

2. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi

This is named as one of the premiere institutes in India and was established in 1969. It offers a wide range of courses pertaining to undergraduate, post graduate and doctorate level courses.

3.Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi

BHU also has six centers of Advanced Studies, ten departments under the Special Assistance Program and a large number of specialized research centers. It covers all undergraduate, post graduate, diploma level courses and facilitates research programs too.

4.Anna University, Chennai

Established by Late Dr.C.N. Annadurai, former CM of Tamil Nadu, in the year 1978, this is one of the best institutes in India providing 29 Undergraduate and 90 post graduate programs in the university departments.

 

5.University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad

Established in the year 1974, it provides PG /M.Phil /M.Tech. /Ph.D and Integrated PG level courses.

 

6.Jadavpur University, Kolkata

Established in the year 1955, it provides Undergraduate, Masters and M.Phil courses. It is a government-aided autonomous institution.

 

7.University of Delhi, Delhi

Established in the year 1922, it is one of India’s largest universities with 16 faculties, over 80 academic departments, an equal number of colleges and over seven lakh students. It offers Undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil, PhD and other courses.

8.Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore

Spreading across six campuses in Kerala, it is a multi disciplinary institute offering a broad range of Undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and research level courses.

 

9.Savitribhai Phule, Pune University, Pune

Established in the year 1949 and spreading across 411 acres in Pune, this university provides all Undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs across all major streams.

 

10.Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh

Established in the year 1920 and spreading across 467.6 hectares, this university provides Undergraduate, Post-graduate, doctoral programs, advance diploma, part-time diploma and certificate courses.

11.Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal   

Located in Karnataka’s Udupi district, it attract students both from several parts of India and abroad. It has campuses in Mangalore, Bangalore, Dubai and Melaka. This university provides all Undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs across all major streams.

12.Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi

It was made a central university by a special act of Parliament in 1988 and offers UG and PG courses across nine faculties in addition to a large variety of IT courses.

 

13.Bharathiar University, Coimbatore

Named after Tamil poet Subramania Bharathiar, it was established in the year 1982 and offers UG, PG, diploma, PG diploma and certificate courses in various subjects through its 13 schools and 33 study departments.

 

14.University of Calcutta, Kolkata

Established in the year 1857, it offers UG, PG, Doctoral, Diploma, PG Diploma and certificate courses.

 

15.King George’s Medical University, Lucknow

Formerly called Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, it achieved its university status in the year 2002. It provides MBBS, BDS, B.Sc (Nursing) and DM/DH courses in various disciplines.

16.Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore

Founded in the year 1984 and built in a 360-acre eco-friendly campus, it offers 36 Undergraduate, 31 Postgraduate, 4 Integrated and 3 Research programs.

 

17.Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS) , Pilani, Rajasthan

It is known for its quality technical education and it offers a wide range of Undergraduate, Post-graduate, diploma, PG diploma and doctoral programs.

18.University of Madras, Chennai

Established in the year 1857, it offers UG, PG, doctoral, diploma and certificate programs across its 68 departments of study spread over four campuses.

19.Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai

ICT offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) level courses in the domain of engineering and science.

20.Panjab University, Chandigarh

Established in the year 1882 and spreading across a lush 550 acre campus, this university has 78 teaching and research departments and 15 centers/chairs for teaching and research at its main campus.
