India’s probabilities of winning ICC cricket World Cup 2019

You don’t play for the crowd, You play for the country.    -Ms Dhoni

10 countries, 11 Venues, 150 Players, millions of fans and 1 Trophy!

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup, being hosted by England and Wales, from 30th May to 14th July 2019.

The six-week Jamboree has already started and we cannot be any more ready and excited to lift the trophy in July. Touchwood! Not to jinx it or something.

For Indians, cricket has always been more than just a sport, it is one of those sports that galvanize the national interest of the country. So far the Indian cricketers have managed to have a strong worldwide standing.

If we talk of numbers, India has participated 12 times in World Cup and won the trophy twice (1983 and 2011). In addition to winning the 1983 Cricket World Cup, they triumphed over Sri Lanka in the 2011 Cricket World Cup on home soil. They were also runners-up at the 2003 Cricket World Cup, and semifinalists thrice (1987, 1996 and 2015).

This year, India is putting it all in and has become favourites in the World Cup 2019 by staying unbeaten so far! In this tournament India has played 5 matches and celebrated all the victories in their style, maintaining their winning streak. Besides India, there is no other team that has managed to win all the matches that they had played.

King Kohli and his gang are all ready to take charge of England on Sunday (29-06-2019) at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. And for those of you wondering, you would see them in an all-new orange jersey, hopefully winning!

India is the best team in the tournament. India and England is going to be a big game. England is a well-balanced team and they bat deep. But the way India is playing right now they are a top team.   -Sachin Tendulkar

Besides the excellent winning record of Team India, there are various reasons to believe that the Indian Cricket team will be bringing the trophy home this World Cup season! Some of them are listed below.

1. THE ULTIMATE CAPTAIN, VIRAT KOHLI!

Virat Kohli has proved to be an efficient captain in all aspects. Being the “Greatest batsman of his generation”, he is India’s key to winning the World Cup! Virat Kohli registered his 53rd ODI fifty against West Indies in the 34th match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup on Thursday in Manchester. This was Kohli’s 4th consecutive ODI half-century in World Cup 2019.

With this fifty, Kohli became the first Indian captain to score four consecutive World Cup fifties. Overall Kohli equalled South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Australia’s Aaron Finch to become the third captain in Cricket World Cup history to hit four back to back half centuries. Kholi having the highest score of 243 against Sri Lanka, he has also completed his 20,000 international runs.

None of us is unaware of the “Kohli magic” on the field and his dedication in being the best captain of his generation. I think it will be safe to say that as long as we have Kohli doing alright, India has a fair chance of winning!

2.  QUARTET OF PACERS!

After watching India play in the World Cup this year, one can easily conclude that Indian bowling is the X factor of the team. Indian team bowlers like Bumrah and Shami have a BIG contribution in India maintaining their winning streak. Be it Mohammad Shami’s final over hattrick against Afghanistan or Bumrah’s back to back yorkers, they just never fail to amaze us!

3. DHONI!

Despite not being able to score high runs this time, Dhoni is the “wisdom” of the Indian cricket team and can always be seen guiding the teammates and the captain himself. Dhoni behind the wicket is the trump card for India and nobody can do the job better than him. when the team is in a critical position, all you need is Dhoni on strike. One can always hear the commentators chanting his past astonishing cricket records and the fact that batsmen need to fear who’s behind them. Sadly this will be the last World Cup for Dhoni but the good news is that, that it means even more efforts and zeal from his end!

4. THE OPENING PAIR

The opening pair for this World Cup season is Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, doing everything in their power to make sure that India has a stable start in each match. Even though, in the last couple of matches, both of them were seen getting slightly ineffective, with them getting bowled out sooner than expected but let us cut them some slack right! Let us not forget how efficient they have been in the other matches like IND vs PAK.

No cricket team in the world depends on one or two players. The team always plays to win.   -Virat Kohli

Let’s have a quick look at the points table:

  1. Australia became the first team to qualify for the 2019 World Cup semi-finals after their comprehensive 64-run win over hosts England at Lord’s on Wednesday.
  2. After beating West Indies on Thursday, India secured the second position and the team is a win away from qualifying semifinals.
  3. New Zealand is in third place with 5 wins from 7 matches. The loss to Pakistan was their first of the tournament. The team needs a win, the next two matches are with Australia and England.
  4. England has 4 wins from 7 matches and has its task cut out in the two remaining matches – against India and New Zealand. They need to win to come back in the picture. If the team loses both the matches then they may get eliminated from the tournament.
  5. Bangladesh and Pakistan with 3 wins and 3 loose are on number 5, and 6 and struggling with the rank board.
  6. West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan had an unceremonious exit from the tournament.

We shall have a look at the strengths of the top three teams besides India which can be tough competitors:

Australia

Strengths:

David Warner, Aaron Finch scoring more than 400 runs are great batsmen for the team.

If we look for bowlers then Australia has Mitchell Starc, Lockie Ferguson has more than 10 wickets.

It’s a long way to go, and India is progressing way beyond the expectations. All the strategies, practices are increasing their chances of succeeding in every match. All the players of the team are the game breakers, in nutshell India is having a rollicking tournament till now.

Everyone has a fire, but the champions know when to ignite the spark!

All four teams are playing an integral role and are fully geared-up in hopes to take the trophy home. It would be a total neck to neck competition with the survival of the toughest! The semifinals and finals are going to be a roller coaster ride, so prepare to hold on to your seats tight with your eyes stuck on your television screens in anticipation.

Keeping the hope and spirits alive, this year, be ready to cheer (fingers crossed) “Welcome home, a trophy!”
