INDIAN SONGS SOURCED FROM SOME OTHER SONGS!
Plagiarism has been a major headache in the creative industry. But those of you who think that plagiarism came into existence recently, due to the high competition and stuff, sadly you are mistaken! The Indian industry has had a long and illustrious history of plagiarism. The only difference is that people couldn’t take to social media to thrash the artists plagiarizing stuff in that “non-internet era”. The only two rational explanations that anyone can come up with are that
a) they do not want to risk trying out novel concepts in fear of losing money trying out something new; and
b) they believe the Indian audience is ignorant and wouldn’t mind plagiarism.
The non-internet era gave Indian content creators the liberty to pick up the viral stuff from across the globe, re-shape it and present it to the audiences.
Following is the list of such songs, you thought were the products of Indian talent but in reality, they were just a modification, inspiration or borrowed stuff of some already existing songs. Check it out!
Neend churaayi meri (Ishq)– Sending all my love by Tolga (1990).
Mehbooba Mehbooba (Sholay)– Say you love me by Demis roussos.
Jab koi baat bigad jae (Jurm)– Five hundred miles by Peter, Paul and Mary.
Babuji dheere chalna– Perhaps perhaps perhaps by Doris Day.

Pretty Woman (Kal ho na ho)– Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.
Koi Mil Gaya (Kuch kuch hota hai)– Take that look off your face by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi (Aashiqui-1990)– Come into my life by Joyce Sims
Getting inspired by the good stuff being created globally and trying to remove culture or language barrier by producing similar stuff is not wrong in any way. The fact that credits are not given is what is wrong with such artists and productions. They need to be open about what they have copied or modified. Stealing others’ ideas and words and claiming them to be your own should be looked at with the seriousness that it deserves. Period.
